SOLYNDRA TUBULAR PV

Microstrain has teamed up with Solyndra in a bid to bring solar pv to a wider audience. With lower installation costs and less expensive panels per kilowatt produced the tubular panels can offer better returns and shorter payback varsus conventional flat panels. They are approved by the Fraunhofer Institute.

The SolyndraT panel requires fewer roof penetrations and dramatically reduces the installation time and cost. The units are self ballasting thus cutting down on expensive bracketry.

The Solyndra tubular panel differs from conventional flat panels in that they optimize the collection of diffuse and reflected sunlight. They are ideal for flat or low sloping roofs offering the following advantages:

• Fewer roof pemetrations

• Quicker installation

• Wind cooled

Here the advantage of Solyndra is obvious. The Solyndra panels require smaller spacing, less bracketry, fewer penetrations and are less prone to uplift from high winds. In addition Solyndra panels can be oriented with building axis to maximize roof coverage without sacrificing efficiency.

Wind blows through Solyndra panels with no attachment to roof or ballast required. This also improves efficiency through cooling. The product is certified for applications up to 130 mph/200 kph. Lift force on Solyndra panel far less than panel weight Imparts negligible structural loads A conventional panel will blow off roof if not attached or ballasted; lift force can damage roof and structural integrity.
